Literary Tour Moscow Tolstoy

Leo Tolstoy in our Moscow Literary Tour

The program is built in such a way that, in addition to Moscow mansions and streets associated with the name of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy and buildings connected, for example, with his great novel "War and Peace", you will be able to visit the famous Yasnaya Polyana – the Leo Tolstoy house museum in the Tula region ...

A great opportunity to extend your stay in Russia is to continue your literary journey by moving on the high-speed train Sapsan (4 hours) to Saint-Petersburg under our program "Saint-Petersburg of Fyodor Dostoevsky".

The program is preliminary. The organizers reserve the right to replace the excursion blocks with similar ones, without changing main waypoints.

We will visit the charming wooden mansion of Tolstoy in Khamovniki surrounded by an old garden and carved timber fence where it seems that the time has stopped. Inside you will see many interesting details from the everyday life of the writer and his family, such as the bike that Tolstoy learnt to ride when he was almost 70 or an exquisite pair of shoes that he carved for his friend.

Another famous Russian literary destination is Tula, located 120 kilometers south of Moscow. Tula is famous worldwide for The National Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate in Yasnaya Polyana, where the great Russian writer was born in 1828, lived for about sixty years, wrote many of his books including «War and Peace» and was buried in 1910.

With its authentic buildings, surrounded by picturesque forests, orchards and parks, it is a typical Russian estate, which will give the traveller an insight into the everyday life and traditions of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth centuries

4 DAY: TULA REGION

Breakfast at the hotel.

Bus tour to the Tula region to the Museum-estate of L. Tolstoy “Yasnaya Polyana”.

Yasnaya Polyana is the family estate of L. N. Tolstoy. The appearance of the estate, familiar to Tolstoy, which has largely survived to this day, took shape at the beginning of the 19th century under the writer's grandfather, Prince N.S. Volkonsky. In Yasnaya Polyana Tolstoy was born and spent most of his life. Today Yasnaya Polyana remains the same as Tolstoy knew and loved. The memorial landscapes of the estate (gardens, parks, ponds planted by Tolstoy forests), like the buildings of the late 18th – early 19th centuries, are maintained in their unchanged historical form.

The main memorial buildings of the estate:
Volkonsky House – the oldest stone building in Yasnaya Polyana; under L. N. Tolstoy it had an economic purpose, today it is the administrative building of the museum; the house also has an exhibition hall
House of L. N. Tolstoy, in which Tolstoy lived for over 50 years and wrote most of his works; preserved as of 1910 (the last year of the writer's life)
The Kuzminskys' wing – the building of Tolstoy's Yasnaya Polyana school, later – a guest house; now it houses temporary exhibitions
Memorial stable, which today contains about 30 horses, as well as various outbuildings
Lunch at the local cafe.
